PW 2019 Benevolence Awards

Eight Charlotte organizations were granted a total of $8723 from the annual PW (Presbyterian Women) benevolence awards for providing hope, help and dignity for those in need. Preference is given to organizations working to break cycles of poverty, illiteracy, violence and crime, particularly as these issues impact women and children.

From a field of 17 applicants, the following organizations were selected for grants ranging from $500-1500:

  • Augustine Literacy Project for tutor training and support
  • Center for Community Transitions for personal items for women transitioning from prison
  • Changed Choices to mentor and support women in prison
  • Community Culinary School for support packages for students in training
  • Heart Math Tutoringfor tutoring supplies at Westerly Hills
  • Jason’s Getaway for respite/support for Westerly Hills families/children w/special needs
  • Lakewood Preschool Coop for field trip buses, an item not included in other grants
  • Pinewood Elementary School for special books for English Language Learners
