Understanding Mental Illness Series

Oct, 25, 2017

Beginning October 25, First Presbyterian Church’s Health Ministry will partner with two other Presbyterian Churches to sponsor a free four-week series, Understanding Mental Illness.

“Does the Christian tradition offer resources for coping with mental illness and for explaining its origin and its healing?” This collaboration by Covenant Presbyterian and Myers Park Presbyterian churches, is an attempt to respond to this question in Kathryn Greene-McCreight in her book Darkness Is My Only Companion.

The series will offer the perspectives of Charlotteans who have battled mental illness and those working on the front lines of care speak. It begins by exploring a personal story of living with mental illness and continues with information on how mental illness changes the brain, what treatment methods work best, the need for early intervention with adolescents and teens and how to navigate mental health care in Charlotte.

Please join us, at 6:30 p.m., October 25, in the Fellowship Hall at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street. An Open Table dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.; the cost is $7 per person. Please call 704.333.9071 for a dinner reservation. Childcare is available.
