Opportunity Forum: Affordable Housing

Jan, 24, 2018

The next Opportunity Forum on “Affordable Housing in West Charlotte” will be Thursday, January 24.

Stephen Smith, Executive Director of Freedom Communities, will speak in Wood Fellowship Hall, 6:15-7:45 p.m. Free childcare from 6-8 p.m. is available with a reservation for ages birth to grade five.

The final program, “Affordable Housing in Center City,” will be presented by A. Fulton Meachem, Jr., on January 31, 6:15-7:45 p.m., in Wood Fellowship Hall. Meachem is President and CEO, Charlotte Housing Authority.  Free childcare from 6-8 p.m. is available with a reservation for ages birth to grade five.

It is not necessary to RSVP for January 24 or 31, although childcare must be reserved three days in advance.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Task Force on Poverty identified affordable housing as a factor in creating the kind of stability that children and families need in order to escape poverty. First Presbyterian is called to serve and lead our community in addressing the needs and issues Charlotte faces. Opportunity Forum speakers will address patterns of discrimination, tell stories from Charlotte neighborhoods, and share approaches that are making affordable housing a reality.
