Parent Helper Volunteer Information

The role of a Parent Helper is a vital component of the First Presbyterian Preschool Sunday School Program.  Parent helpers are assigned as parent volunteers who work with the teachers and the paid worker(s) to insure the children have a joyful, playful and educational experience each Sunday morning.

Obviously, the safety and security of our children is our first priority.  We need parent helpers to monitor the doors as children arrive and depart the classrooms.  It can get a little hectic when 20 preschoolers are being picked up by parents and siblings following church.  Parent helpers also assist in walking the children to and from the playgrounds and the rainy day room, as well as, supervise those playful activities.

Our goal is to integrate prayer, Bible Stories, circle time, music, art, and/or drama projects into every Sunday morning for our preschoolers.  It takes several adults to corral all that energy into quiet time for the prayer and story time.  Often the teachers need help getting and keeping everyone’s attention.  Usually, the paid workers are cleaning up the room during circle time so parent helpers are vital in maintaining the peace and quiet.

Reading is a big part of our Preschool Curriculum.  Parent helpers can read to the children in small groups before or after the story and circle time.  Parent helpers assist with snacks and bathroom breaks.

We need parent helpers each week to insure both the safety of our children and the quality of our Preschool Sunday School program.  Your help will insure a quality program and a safe environment.  We only ask each parent to serve once or twice a year and we don’t think this is too much to ask of our parents.

Parent helper schedules are sent out three times per year.  We randomly assign Sundays to parents.  We post the parent helper schedule in the First News, which comes out weekly.  Diane Baker in the church office calls on the preceding week to remind parent helpers of their scheduled Sunday service.  We realize that things do come up, but we request that parent helpers who are unable to serve their designated dates call other parents on the schedule to make a switch. To make this easier for all of us, we have included phone numbers for everyone on the schedule.  Once you have rescheduled, please contact Diane Baker at dbaker@firstpres-charlotte.org to let her know of your change.

We are really excited about the upcoming year for the First Presbyterian Preschool Sunday School Program.  It is better than ever.  Thanks for your help and willingness to do your part.
