Child Development Center
 First Presbyterian Church Child Development Center was established in 1947 as a vital and necessary mission of the church. We seek to share God’s love by caring for and educating a diverse group of young children in partnership with the congregation, Church staff, parents, and teachers in this facility. The program, running Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm, is under the supervision of a full time director and associate director, assisted by a dedicated, highly regarded staff. The Center provides a full day, educational child development program for up to 96 pre-school children ages 8 weeks to 5 ½ years. This Center maintains a FIVE STAR rating from the state of North Carolina and is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Yong Children (NAEYC).
The basis for the philosophy of the Child Development Center (CDC) is the belief that every child is a beautiful gift with qualities, when celebrated and nurtured, will enhance the world of the future. It is our mission to create for each child an environment where he/she can feel cherished, secure and affirmed. We strive to be involved with the whole child, filling the child with a strong sense of personal worth and ability.
The primary essential goal of any approach to children in the CDC is to build, nurture, and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. It is our aim that children know themselves as whole people, each of whose heritage, family, home, abilities, thoughts, and feelings are important and worthy. The secondary essential goal is to provide the kind of living experience that encourages understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of all things that make each child special.
