Children’s Ministries here at First Presbyterian Church is constantly striving to faithfully and joyfully inspire, teach, disciple and love our children, helping them to grow in the Christian faith and to experience God in their lives. When a child is baptized, the congregation is asked to stand and respond as a covenant community to this question:
“Our Lord Jesus Christ ordered us to teach those who are baptized. Do you, the people of the church, promise to tell this new disciple the good news of the gospel, to help him/her know all that Christ commands, and, by your fellowship, to strengthen his/her family ties with the household of God? Do you?”
“Will you as a parent respond to this charge to nurture your child’s faith by committing to bringing them to Sunday school, teaching Sunday school and/or being involved in the life of the Church?”
We take seriously our Baptismal covenant by providing strong educational programs for our children and their families. We offer two consecutive Christian Education programs for our preschool children. Our first program is for two-year olds which is called Little Lambs. Worship Beginnings is our second program offered to our three and four-year-olds and continues until he/she is in Kindergarten. Both programs are story-based and provide lots of fun crafts and activities that enhance the Bible lesson. They have an opportunity through a structured, age-appropriate curriculum to share stories of faith, hope and love.
Our elementary program is focused on our Kindergarten through 5th grade children. These elementary students use the “Walk with Me” curriculum that is published by Faith Alive Resources. It is teacher-friendly and fun for kids! This educational material teaches kids to memorize the scriptures, learn the stories of the Bible, and understand the teachings of Jesus. It is designed to nurture the faith of our children and help them develop a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
There are many opportunities to become involved in our Children’s ministries and family programs. Please visit the links on the left to learn more about our Children's Education Ministry.
