he Reverend Doctor William P. Wood

The Reverend Doctor William P. Wood was elected Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church in 1983. Dr. Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts - History degree at Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree and a Master of Theology degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Wood was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy -Old Testament-doctorate degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Wood also studied at the University of Heidelberg and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Tusculum College, Greenville, Tennesee.

Prior to assuming the Senior Minister position at First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Wood served as Associate Minister, First Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Texas and as Senior Minister, First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, Tennessee.

Dr. Wood has three children - Grace ,Will, and Lucy.

The Reverend Kathleen A. Crowe was elected Associate Minister for Service and Missions in August 2004. Originally from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, she grew up in Alpharetta, Georgia. Katie attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia, with a Religion and Philosophy major and Women's Studies minor. It was here that she met her husband, Rob. She attended Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated in 2003 with her Masters of Divinity degree. After her graduation from seminary, Katie completed a yearlong Clinical Pastoral Education Residency serving as a chaplain at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

 

James MillerThe Reverend Doctor James F. Miller
Associate Minister for Christian Education

The Reverend Doctor James F. Miller began his work as Associate Minister for Christian Education in December 2006. A sixth generation Presbyterian minister, Dr. Miller earned his bachelors and masters degrees from McGill University, Montreal, and received his theological degree from Glasgow University. His doctorate was awarded by Drew University and he also studied at the University of Vienna.

Ordained in 1969, Dr. Miller has served congregations in Canada, Scotland, Colorado, Michigan, as well as North Carolina.

He and his wife, Karen, have four children [two sons and two daughters], all married, and eight grand-children.

 

Katherine CookeThe Reverend Katherine Cooke
Associate Minister for Pastoral Care and Congregational Life

The Reverend Katherine W. Cooke began work as Associate Minister for Pastoral Care and Congregational Life in January 2008.  Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Katherine is a graduate of Davidson College.  She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University and a Master’s in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.  Prior to attending seminary, Katherine worked in the nonprofit sector and also in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Katherine was ordained in 2005 and served as Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Oxford, Mississippi prior to coming back to Charlotte.


Wes BarryThe Reverend Wesley Barry
Associate Minister for Evangelism and Young Adults

Wesley Berry graduated from Davidson College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. Most recently, he completed his Master of Divinity studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, and was called to First Presbyterian as Associate Minister for Evangelism and Young Adults. Wes spent several years between school in Charlotte at Providence Presbyterian and as a Young Life Church-partner. He was ordained in December 2007.

Wes, who grew up in Atlanta, has returned to Charlotte with his wife, Lindsay, and their daughter, Eleanor Grace. Wes is excited to serve the burgeoning uptown population as First Presbyterian seeks to reach out to the young professionals and new residents moving into our community.
